The Brian Jonestown Massacre, at Concorde 2, Brighton 28/06/2014

29/6/2014

Psychedelic masters The Brian Jonestown Massacre graced Brighton's Concorde 2 with their presence last night, getting in first before their old mates The Dandy Warhols arrive in town in July. Anton Newcombe and the band were in fine form, with not a single restarted number in sight (Anton's professional approach won't settle for anything less than perfection). With typically solid leading contributions from Matt Hollywood (despite his glasses going AWOL at one point), Frankie Emerson and of course Joel ("being Joel"), Ricky Maymi, Rob Campanella, Collin Hegna and Dan Allaire completed the line up for one of the venues most memorable moments of the year as they trawled through old favourites such as Anemone and Wisdom whilst adding several new numbers from this year's new album, Revelation. Catch them at Glastonbury TODAY!

Meanwhile, I'm too knackered to write a full gig review so enjoy my front row pictures - no professional photographer was present so these might be the best snaps you get!

Inaugural Post - Johnny Marr - Concorde 2, Brighton 14-03-2013

It is fitting that the first ever blog entry on CriticalWax.com concerns The Smiths legendary guitarist Johnny Marr, as the first ever solo album released by Marr was the first ever CriticalWax produced album review - supplied to and published by Stereoboard.com.
Last night saw Marr play to a sardine tin-like Concorde 2 situated in Brighton's Madeira Drive - a great, small rocking venue on the seafront that has seen legends come and go, including the Foo Fighters when Dave Grohl and co. played a one-off intimate gig here in 2007.
CriticalWax managed to take some (shoddy quality it has to be said) live snaps of the recent recipient of the NME Godlike Genius Award.  Check the Published Articles page for a review of the gig, and also for a review of the album The Messenger.
Please note, these pics are free for use elsewhere (why you would want to do that, who knows) as long as a credit and link back to CriticalWax is given on your website.
